The Snowden Effect's Impact in Canada

The first and most major impact is tied at the waist with those of America. Being neighbors and similar in ideology, many of the same issues arose. Many of the internet/cloud companies mentioned earlier also played a role there, and as the revelations of their involvement in PRISM caught on, they had to save face in all of the countries they worked in, these include Verizon, Google and Microsoft all of which had a strong presence in Canada.

Further issues arise due to Canada’s involvement in the  Five Eyes Intelligence Agency, a network of governments including those of the U.S, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. This agency was created to share and cross pollinate the data archives between the members, in the hopes of creating a more concrete and able set of information to identify and stop potential threats. However, this intelligence alliance was kept secret so its sudden revelation shocked the people of all five countries in unison as the only indisputable evidence of private citizen’s data being taken and shared across the globe (Geist)
